About Us : Black Women Film! Canada is a renowned not-for-profit dedicated to supporting the development of Black women in film and media across Canada.

Overview: Black Women Film is seeking a National Programs Manager to lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of national initiatives and new program title Reel Change.  This role is critical in driving program success, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and mission, and fostering partnerships through our different programs. This role will oversee our new Reel Change program that will take place in numerous cities across Canada in 2025, alongside a series of small gatherings, focus groups, mentorships and the creation of a series of training videos.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Management & Execution

  • Responsible for overall management and delivery of assigned projects and partners in both live and digital environments;

  • Oversee all coordination of all logistics, including but not limited to: scheduling; contracts; partner and participant liaising, social media outreach, travel; payments, vendors; video production coordination, .

  • Identify internal and external resources required for project completion, and liaise with Executive Director, facilitators and contract staff to ensure suitable resources are assigned; 

  • Oversee and build upon project critical path

  • Alongside ED, reach out to additional partners and sponsors to ensure additional support for programs where necessary 

  • Maintain project budgets and work plans

  • Prepare Quartlerly reports

  • Manage all assigned program budgets from development, compliance, planning & execution as well as post execution budget reconciliation; 

Team Management Leadership 

  • Lead the project specific team in delivery of all programs 

  • Hire national facilitators, consultants and evaluators, manage National Program Assistant and interns with support and final approvals from ED.

  • Provide effective supervision, coaching and feedback to the internal project team on a regular basis, ensuring program expectations are being met at all times; 

  • Meet with ED regularly to discuss project progress; this includes weekly in-person meetings from co-working space. 

  • Support ED in the implementation of workflows, policies and procedures of the delivery team.

Travel

  • Attend, manage and supervise all programs in person for prep, opening and closing events and any necessary trainings that will take place in Montreal, Vancouver, Halifax & Winnipeg

Additional Requirements

Considered candidateS must be based in either Toronto or Montreal or be willing to relocate for the position at own expense. All program related travel, accommodation and per diem will be covered by Black Women Film.

Ideal candidate is highly experienced, Interested in making positive change in the film industry, has a great personable demeanour and leadership skills, experience public speaking, is representative of the community that Black Women serves and holds a proven track record of managing successful teams and delivering projects on time. Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Nonprofit Management, Arts Management, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in program management, preferably in the arts, film or nonprofit sector.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

  • Bilingualism is an asset, especially in English and French.

  • Previous experience of Black Women Film programs is also an asset.

  • Training in anti-oppression and inclusive working environments is also an asset.

Compensation:

  • Competitive salary, plus full benefits provided by the Manulife Group Benefits Plan.

  • 16 days of paid vacation outside of program times after the first 10 months, plus additional winter holiday time (December 23 - January 3).

Work Environment & Travel Expectations

  • This position involves a lot of travel. If candidate is based in Toronto, monthly travel to Montreal will be required for the first 6 months of the contract with a two week in person training period in Montreal in late November.

  • From Jan - June - the national programs manager will also attend all in person focus groups and gatherings in Montreal, Vancouver, Winnipeg & Halifax with the ED. This can involve anything from three day or week long trips, expenses paid by Black Women Film. 

  • No travel is required during the summer months.
